Cass: I grew up going to church…I was baptized at the age of seven at a local church in Cody. We would go most Sundays and I was involved with Sunday School, Christmas Pageants, and all of the things.
Cassidy’s church experience was steady until her high school years.
Cass: When I was a bit older I was good friends with a pastor’s son and started going to church apart from my parents. That’s when I started to know Jesus on a more personal level and started to make my faith my own.
Cassidy’s parents were a big influence in Cassidy’s faith and supportive of Cassidy growing in her faith. Cassidy continued to be an active participant with several local churches in Cody as she grew into her teen and high school years.
Ultimately Cassidy settled on a small home church, which helped her grow in her daily devotions.
Cass: I learned how to dissect the word and understand more than just the basic, overlying story. I learned how to dig into the word contextually and understand what was going on in history during the time period. I understood why these things were impactful for the time period they were written in, beyond the surface level of our ability to relate to today’s experiences. Those are my favorite kinds of passages and teachings to listen to; when it’s broken down in a historically accurate context. It helps to understand the worldly issues going on at the time and how the Christians were being persecuted. I like understanding the Latin, Greek, and Hebrew roots and understanding the bible that way.
Cassidy continued to learn more about the bible from the small home church until the pastor moved away from Cody. Cassidy and Monte started attending Outpost Church with their three month old daughter when services were held at the Cody Rec Center.
Cass: From there we were plugged into community and we’ve been involved ever since. I feel like the phase of life we’re in right now is challenging because I want to study and dig more into the Word but between life and small children it’s the plague everyone falls into with time and prioritizing.
Despite the demands of daily life, both Monte and Cassidy continue to study and disciple their young children as often as possible.
Cassidy and Monte first met in 2012/2013 at a weight-lifting competition, but were both too shy to talk to one another at first.
Cass: I saw him and thought “Oh, he’s cute!” and he saw me and thought, “Oh, she’s cute!” and then we didn’t speak to one another.
They met again when Monte was a senior in high school and Cassidy was a freshman.
Cass: We did not court the way we should have, and felt a lot of guilt because of that. We ended up bumping up our wedding by almost a full year. We were living together for a short amount of time, then I moved out and we bumped up the wedding. We felt convicted. It was a good opportunity to repent and disregard what our peers were telling us. It was an opportunity to stand firm in our faith. We wanted to be able to live our faith authentically and not say we attended church but disregarded the Bible’s teachings. We wanted to stand firm in our faith and act out our beliefs. We wanted to stand apart from the “you do you” attitude of our generation.
Monte and Cassidy married in 2017 while Cassidy was attending nursing school. She finished nursing school in 2018 and has recently completed additional schooling to be a Licensed Nurse Practitioner.
The following years were followed by heartache and endurance.
Cass: I worked in Billings for six months, survived Covid, we lost a baby, had a baby, I went to NP school, we had another baby, and I started my job!
My walk with God is chaotic right now. In this season I’m not as disciplined as I would like to be. It’s hard to find the balance of time with a 9-to-5 type of job. Our regular routine with Community has been helpful. We work to find ways to praise God in the small moments.

Monte’s walk with God was different from Cassidy’s experiences.
Monte: I grew up in a non Christian home. We weren’t atheists, just non practicing. My mom’s background was with Catholicism. Once I hit late middle school and early high school I felt a difference in my life. I liked to be by myself in the mountains. Once I got my driver’s license that’s all I would do, drive off to the hills and go hunting. I started to talk to what I thought was myself a lot of the time and then I started picking up on hints that I was really talking to God. It was a good way for me to get away from all the stress and talk to God without any distractions.
After Monte and Cassidy started dating, Monte began to attend church with Cassidy’s family for holidays and other special occasions.
Monte: It was a big change from what I did with my family, that’s not really what we were about. I started to understand and pick up my faith.
Monte was baptized in 2017, the year they were married.
Monte: Nowadays my dad goes to church as well! I relate it to when Sarah laughed at God in the Bible; when God said Sarah would have a child in her old age. I would laugh at the idea of my dad going to church and think, I’d like to see that happen! Now he’s attending church. So, I put my foot in my mouth!
Monte’s walk with God is also in a chaotic phase of life. With their young children and career trajectories, the search for balance is neverending.
Monte: Mentally exhausting is a good word for us at the moment. I feel convicted about needing to do more with my faith.
Despite their worries, Monte and Cassidy ground themselves in prayer, leaning on God through both peaceful and stressful times. Their faith is a steady thread woven into their daily lives, seen in the way they pray for guidance and offer praise in life's teachable moments.
Monte: I think community is helping us a lot in staying steadfast. It’s more personal and we like how we’re held accountable.
Monte and Cassidy’s walk with Jesus continues to be one filled with steadfast love and perseverance during one of life’s most busy and chaotic seasons. Their story is woven with endurance, challenges, and devoted hope. No matter the season, the chaos, or the distractions, God and His love abound and guide. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.”
